My Blogger site was getting a bit too limited in its capabilities, so I decided to upgrade to a WordPress site hosted on my own personal webspace. I am absolutely amazed at what WordPress has to offer! The install took about 5 minutes, and then my site was up and running. With a few (relatively) painless steps, I was able to import all of my old Blogger content. Now I’m able to completely customize my blog (the ability to edit actual PHP code makes me very happy).
Just in case you’re interested, my domain bluemontline.com (and bluemontline.org) is registered with GoDaddy and my hosting is provided by BlueHost. I tried GoDaddy’s hosting, which was better than the incredibly-uninpressive (and somewhat dishonest) VizaWeb hosting I had a while ago, but I was still unimpressed. Their control panel was not too hot (BlueHost has cPanel, which is the real deal). Also, GoDaddy’s systems seemed to add unnecessary delay to just about every type of request I initiated (I would get an annoying “please wait while the system does stuff” message which would sometimes last quite a while). BlueHost’s systems have been noticeably faster. Edits to system settings happen instantaneously. My website on the BlueHost servers loads noticeably faster than it did on GoDaddy or VizaWeb.
So, in summary, I’m incredibly happy with my new setup. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
