A Difficult Decision

This morning, I was presented with an interesting dilemma: what cereal do I choose for breakfast? The issue is complicated by the fact that I’m not a big fan of any of the available choices. (Actually, this is an ongoing problem, because the cupboard has contained essentially the same 6 boxes of cereal for a very long time). Here’s the list:

  • Bran Flakes (of the generic variety)
  • Cheerios
  • Kix
  • Raisin Bran (of the generic variety)
  • Rice Crispies (the generic equivalent, that is)
  • Shredded Wheat (the generic equivalent, that is)

What would you do if you were faced with this challenge? Also, can you guess what my decision was?

First I would make sure that they weren’t stale (considering the same 6 boxes have been there for a “very long time”)
If they still taste as good ast they are supose to ;) I would mix bran flakes, cheerios, and shredded wheat all into a bowl. At least to see if they all taste good together. Then I would drissle honey on top and shedded almonds (if a available of course) and milk. I haven’t tried shredded wheat but my cupboard does reguarly have branflakes and cheerios so I discovered they taste pretty good together. :)

My guess that you didn’t choose any of the cereals because you aren’t to fond of any of them.

Oh, yeah none of them are stale! (They haven’t been in the cupboard for THAT long!) :)

Bekah, Your recipe sounds very interesting! I’m too afraid to try it, though. Something about mixing bran flakes and Cheerios just seems wrong to me!

That is a good idea to add honey, etc. I didn’t think of that.

haha.. I think they actually do kind of compliment each other though.

Well, if you say so! I guess it wouldn’t hurt to try it. Maybe that’s what I’ll have tomorrow. :)

You really only have one choice: stop for a sausage biscuit at McDonalds on your way somewhere, and then, after acquiring the necessary sustenance to continue, stop at the local grocery and buy a different cereal that you will consistently enjoy. Make sure to get enough for both yourself and to share.

I’d recommend:
1) Honey Nut Cheerios
2) Oh’s
3) Frosted Flakes

I’d eat the kix ’cause I haven’t had the opportunity to eat them in many many years ( at least five, probably closer to nine). Otherwise, I’d pick cheerios. I like cheerios with milk, in yogurt, with sliced bananas or strawberries, etc. I feel good about eating them because they aren’t so processed and sugary as a lot of other cereals on the market.
What do you do on mornings when you need to eat something warm??? I eat that new organic quaker oats oatmeal and make it with milk; it warms me up after a night of sleeping by a leaky window :)
What do you drink with breakfast? I like Koombucha tea (by yogi tea)! MMMM! Or 1% milk.

Mr. Wheeler… that is a superb idea! I cannot believe that I didn’t think of that. McDonalds has some rather tasty breakfast items. Then I would probably get some Frosted Flakes or Lucky Charms. Start the day in a healthy way… that’s what I always say!

Bethany, good choice… Kix is the best out of these 6, in my opinion (that is the one I chose). Cheerios would probably be my second choice, but mixing them in yogurt sounds very scary to me (as you can see, I have an aversion to mixing foods together! As a child, I was one of those people who would sorta freak out if differing food items came into contact with each other on my plate. I’m not quite that bad now, but obviously there are still remnants of that type of obsessiveness!) I confess I have mixed Grape Nuts cereal in with yogurt, and that is not too bad.

I haven’t made warm breakfast in a long time… in the past I have eaten Quaker instant oatmeal of the variety with “fruit” in it. That’s not bad. Also, Cream of Wheat (both the plain and chocolate flavor) is pretty good if plenty of sugar is added. One time I made oatmeal (with milk, of course) and added brown sugar and (I think) raisins, and that was super good.

I like to drink milk for breakfast (whole milk if available, or at least 2%). Or those bottled frappucino things from Starbucks are good. Unfortunately, I have very little experience with tea. I’ve been wanting to try some Chai tea… that looks like it would make a very nice breakfast drink. Is that difficult to prepare? Since you are a tea expert, Bethany, I need you to instruct me in the ways of tea drinking!

Jedidiah, am I to assume that your new request is more sugar cereals? There is a grocery list on the side of the refrigerator that you’re welcome to add to at any time. And, for the record, I usually buy between fifteen and twenty boxes of cereal every two weeks. The “sugared” ones go pretty fast. I think Jeff had a great idea! Maybe you should buy your own “stash”? : )

Heh, yeah I could do that… but then I would have nothing to write about.

Well, Bekah… I tried mixing Cheerios and bran flakes, and it wasn’t too good. :) However, plain bran flakes with honey was rather delicious!

Wow! I never knew cereal was such a popular topic. :-) I think Bex has hit the nail on the head: Bran flakes and Cheerios are the perfect match for each other — especially with honey drizzled on top. If you can get Raisin Bran, it’s even better.

The worst cereal, in my opinion is either Fruit Loops or Cocoa Puffs. Anything that changes the color of the milk is WAY too sugary.

Well, Josiah, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so that makes it a vital topic. I think my readers realize that, so they know that it’s essential to be a part of this discussion!

Raisins with Cheerios??? Ewwww! That meal was not meant to be. :)
