Mercy
Well, today God allowed me to narrowly evade a much-deserved parking ticket. It reminded me of just how merciful God is, even when it comes to little things like $10 fines. This event totally made my day.
I parked my car in a metered lot at the U of I at approximately 9:12am. I put two quarters in the meter, which gave me 36min of parking time. I then went to the Engineering building and dropped off a homework assignment at 9:25am. Thinking I had ample time to kill before the meter expired (I am very bad at doing math in my head), I retired to my laboratory and hung out until about 9:50am.
As I walked out to the parking lot, I saw the dreaded “U of I Parking Services” truck pull up, and the parking enforcement officer beginning to check the meters near my car. I suddenly felt a bit worried (it was now about 9:55am) and I started hurrying towards my car. I found the meter flashing “0 minutes,” and I jumped in my car and drove away just as the parking officer arrived at the meter right next to mine.
So I didn’t get a ticket! It was a great feeling. I’m amazed at how merciful God is! He could have let me suffer the consequences of my bad time-management, but instead He chose to rescue me from my stupidity (yet again).
I hope that I can develop some wisdom and common sense so I don’t get myself into so many sticky situations in the future, but I’m thankful that God is there for me as I learn and make mistakes.

You’re already in the process of developing wisdom if you are able to see God at work in your life – even in the “little” things. There really are no coincidences when it comes to His plan for us. I’m excited that you’re learning and growing, even though it’s sometimes painful. When we finally come to the end of ourselves – that’s when He can make something beautiful from the ashes of our hopes and dreams. I can’t wait to see your finished masterpiece!
