Half Price Books

My brother and I visited the Half Price Books store in Cedar Rapids for the first time today. When we walked in the door, the sight that greeted us took my breath away. I have never seen so many used books, vinyl records, CD’s, and DVD’s in one place. It’s a veritable treasure trove of bargain-priced awesomeness!

I purchased a beautiful hardcover collection of works by Jane Austen (which includes Sense and Sensibility, Emma, and Northanger Abbey), the novel Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, and a book of selected poems by Byron, Shelley, and Keats, all for less than $6 apiece. Unfortunately, I probably won’t be able to start reading them until after this semester is finished (engineering likes to steal all of my time and/or reduce my mind to mush so that I am unable to take part in enjoyable literary pursuits), but I’m happy to at least have them in my possession.

If you’ve never been to this store, check it out!

Me and my brother???
I guess engineering does reduce your mind to mush :)

Thanks Bethany! That was an egregious error. I have corrected it.

Yes indeed… that was a demonstration of the horrible mind-altering effects of engineering. I used to could write in standard English. Now look at me.

Just say “no” to engineering, kids.

I wasn’t going to say anything, but since Bethany already corrected your grammar in this post, I felt it my duty to point out another similar error in your “Generosity” post. I guess you’ve forgotten all ABeka taught you. : )

Aaaargh!!! How can this be happening?!? I had viewed my blog as the pinnacle of grammatical perfection, but now that illusion has been shattered. :o

But seriously… thanks for the correction, mom.

It is every reader’s noble duty to be intolerant of poor grammar! I’m glad to see that people are taking that responsibility seriously!

:) :) :)
This is funny. I don’t mean to be mean, or anything, I hope you’re laughing along with me here, but ‘mom’ in your last comment should be capitalized because it’s taking the place of her name.
LOL

Hahahaha, okay okay!! So maybe I have grammar difficulties sometimes! Give me a break here, people! :)

Good store! I am feeling a little envious of your Jane Austin findings and that there is not one of those stores where I live. :P

Aww, Bex that’s too bad! :( You’ll just have to settle for good ‘ol Amazon.com for used books.

Or, you could move back to CR!!! :)

Nice! Yeah I looked through their vinyl selection, but I couldn’t find anything interesting.

Yep. They’ve got everything there! You never can tell what you might find stuffed away in a forgotten shelf… I found a $6 Dickens 4-book compilation and a friend from Rhetoric class. Only one of them was actually in the shelf, though. ;-)

hmm I think I am done moving for now, jed. Maybe I will just have to visit or something. :P

I see… that’s understandable, Bex. Moving is never overly enjoyable. But yeah, definitely come visit us sometime!!!

I think moving is quite enjoyable! I love living different places. (Although, packing and unpacking can be not fun, I agree!)

I don’t like moving, because it usually involves leaving behind friends, and stuff like that. And that’s not fun. :( I do like seeing different places, but only temporarily. I like to have a single place that I call “home.” But you’re right, Eloprah… packing/unpacking makes things even worse!
