An Ode To the Future
I wrote this a couple of weeks ago in anticipation of the way I would feel at this moment — a tribute to today, and to countless Futures even darker than this one…
I’m in outer space but I can’t see the stars
Because of the reflections on my bedroom window.
The flickering screen of my life-support system
Feeds me digitized communications from planet earth.
The cable pumps broadband data into my bloodstream,
And the synthetic transfusion leaves me feeling empty.
I wish the blue glow could illuminate my mind…
I thought I saw the light at the tunnel’s end,
But it was only a flashing stoplight,
Warning me to proceed with caution.

So, what is the cause for apprehension today, of all days?
Afraid your April Fools would backfire on you?
