Delta Quadrant
Folks, I am thoroughly addicted to Star Trek Voyager. It is just amazing. Seriously, you need to go to your local library and check out Season 1 on DVD (or buy it online) right away.
In the episode I watched today, some of the resident geniuses aboard Voyager (namely B’Elanna and Kim) were able to contact a Romulan ship thousands of light years away by using a tiny wormhole as a transport medium for their communication channel! As if that isn’t cool enough, they then figured out a way to mix in a transporter channel and actually beam the Romulan captain aboard Voyager! Turns out he was from 20 years in the past! We’re talking RIFT IN SPACE-TIME HERE, PEOPLE!!!
So the show is very exciting and well-written. But the characters are the best part. I really like Kes (see picture). She is just so sweet and she always has something friendly or encouraging to say to the people she encounters. Plus, she has a soothing voice and a disarming smile. Currently, she is training to assist the Doctor (Emergency Medical Hologram) in sickbay, and she is showing great medical aptitude.
Faithful readers, I urge you to join me (and the rest of my family) and become proud Trekkies! It is a noble pursuit.

Watching tar Trek Voyager sounds like a fun way to spend some free time. Maybe I’ll look into it sometime soon.

I always enjoyed TNG and Enterprise better than Voyager, which often seems a little mystical. However, Voyager is better than Deep Space Nine, even though it featured a native Iowan actress.

Whoa… comparisons between different Star Treks?!? That is a very risky business. I believe that each Star Trek series is good in its own way, and that it is impossible to say that one is “better” than another.

It is not impossible to say that one is better than another. Witness: “Enterprise is better than Voyager.” (You’ll have to take my word that I just “said” it while I wrote it.)
Let the flaming debate begin…

I should have said “it is impossible to say that one is better without looking like an elitist nerd or a clueless sheeple.”

Yet, I suspect that you wouldn’t hesitate to assert that Voyager is better than American Idol? ![]()
Thus far, the debate has used at least three common debate tactics, one of which is expressly post-modern. Can you identify them?

I will freely say that I like Voyager more than I like American Idol, but that does not mean that it is “better.” I am not the Font of All TV Show Wisdom, therefore I have no right to make sweeping judgments about the relative goodness of shows.
I have no interest in debate tactics. My goal is not to “win” arguments… it is simply to pursue a discovery of the truth (or an approximation thereof) for both sides. Sometimes that actually involves me losing.
