Ninja Gnats
My friends Bethany and Rachel and I were discussing mutant gnats, and I felt that I needed to summarize this important conversation in pictorial form…

Rush
On Tuesday, my brother Josiah and I attended the Rush concert in Moline, IL. It was pretty fun! I’m not a huge fan of Rush’s music (it tends to get a little tedious and inaccessible sometimes), but there were two things that made the concert well worth our time (and possibly worth the price of [...]

Summer Reading List
I have a list of novels that I would like to read this summer. There are a few of these (Mansfield Park being one of them) that I started a while back, but haven’t had time to finish until now. Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle [...]

New Slang
If you have been attentive to my lists of recent music purchases (or if you live at my house), you have probably noticed that The Shins are rapidly working their way to the top of Jed’s Music Charts. The lead singer (James Mercer) has an amazing voice. Check it out…

Celebration
This weekend, I’m celebrating the completion of school with some ridiculously entertaining activities!!! Here’s what I’ve done so far… Attend the Linn-Mar Homeschool play (“Pollyanna”). Hang out with friends at a graduation party. Purchase some music at Barnes and Noble: Come on Feel the Illinoise! by Sufjan Stevens Lifted, or The Story Is in the [...]

Done?
School is out for the summer. I’m glad, because this semester has spanned a time period that I can honestly call the worst five months of my life. It’s not that the school work was difficult (actually, to the contrary, it was a comparatively easy semester in that regard), it’s just that it exacerbated other [...]

Work
One benefit of being an engineering student is that it’s relatively easy to find employment! Sometimes employment even comes looking for me! Today I had to run to school for a few minutes to drop off some graded papers, and as I was walking down the hallway, a professor stopped me and said “Just the [...]

Spring Concert
Tonight I attended the the Homeschool Band/Choir Spring Concert in Cedar Rapids. It was rather enjoyable. My friends Bethany (flute), Breanna (percussion), and Tiffany (saxophone) played in the band, and they did a very nice job. Several great selections were played, such as “Eye of the Tiger” (from the movie Rocky) and the hymn “Crown [...]

Last Day of Classes
Well, the beginning of this semester was a complete disaster, but now it’s looking like everything is going to turn out okay! The class that I’ve been the most worried about is High Performance Computer Architecture. I haven’t picked up my graded midterm and homeworks, so I have no idea how I’m doing with respect [...]

Senior Project, Part IV
All aspects of the senior design project are finished! Today I built the final version of the Data Logger hardware (click on the picture), and amazingly my printed circuit board design had no flaws and I got all the parts soldered without destroying anything, so the device totally works. By the way, special thanks to [...]
