The King and I
Yesterday night, I went to a performance of The King & I at the Englert Theatre in Iowa City with my brother Josiah. It was great. The orchestra was sounding good, and I especially liked the percussion… they had a trap set, timpanis, glockenspiel, xylophone, and an awesome gong! I also enjoyed my friend Bethany’s harp playing.
I was impressed with the acting and singing as well. The characters were very nicely done, and the sound levels were good. My favorite part was when the people at the king’s palace put on their own production of Uncle Tom’s Cabin. It was like a play within a play (recursion = awesome)!! They really did a great job of capturing the oriental feel.
I could go on and on, but I’m really tired right now. The bottom line is that The King & I is a great play (especially this particular performance).
