My Lab
As you may know, I am a teaching assistant for this semester’s Digital Design class at the U of I. This is the third time I have helped teach this class. It is an introduction to digital electronics (binary numbers, boolean logic, logic gates, sequential circuits, etc.), and it’s really fun.
I thought you might like […]

Senior Project, Part IV
All aspects of the senior design project are finished! Today I built the final version of the Data Logger hardware (click on the picture), and amazingly my printed circuit board design had no flaws and I got all the parts soldered without destroying anything, so the device totally works.
By the way, special thanks to […]

Senior Project, Part III
My design team and I gave a 12 minute presentation about the project yesterday. It went well. We each talked for 3 minutes (there are 4 of us team members) in a classroom of about 30 students and a few professors, so it wasn’t really a big deal for me. Believe it […]

Senior Project, Part II
I finished up the PCB layout for my senior project and sent the design files off to my favorite fab house, Advanced Circuits. It will take them about a week to get the board manufactured. Until then, I will be using my prototyping setup (click the picture for a larger view) to do […]

Senior Project
I thought that perhaps people might be interested to know what I’m up to in school. At the moment, I’m focusing on finishing up my senior project, which is a low-power digital data logger. Today, I’m working on the PCB (Printed Circuit Board) layout for the hardware (click on the image to see […]

PI Day
Happy PI Day, everybody! Today is a day for us math/engineering geeks to celebrate our favorite number π.
You might be wondering how to celebrate Pi Day. I’ve found a great way to show your love for the number Pi (which is 3.1415…, for those of you who don’t know). In conversation, simply […]

Circuit Test
Imagine that you have been hired by Acme Engineering Co., and your job is to analyze an unknown electrical device. “But… but I have no knowledge of electronics!” you tell them. Well, no big deal… Acme thinks you’re qualified. Plus, the salary is immense! So why not give it a try?!?
The […]

GRE Test, Part II
Well, the GRE went surprisingly well!
I scored the same verbal score as I did in the practice test (approximately 90th percentile), and I scored an amazing 100 points higher in the math section than I did on the practice test (putting me in the 90th percentile range for math as well)!!! I was shocked […]

GRE Test
I am somewhat nervous, because I am going to be taking the GRE exam from 8am - 12pm tomorrow. The GRE (Graduate Record Examination) is a computer-based exam used by most graduate schools as a factor in determining acceptance to graduate programs.
I haven’t really studied for it at all, but I took a complete […]
